Start of the trial for the death of Diego Maradona

Next Tuesday, March 11, the trial for the death of Diego Armando Maradona will begin at the Oral Criminal Court No. 3 of San Isidro. The process, conducted under the name "Causa Luque y otros" (File No. 5628), has seven health professionals accused of alleged "simple homicide with eventual intent," a crime that carries penalties of 8 to 25 years in prison.

Among the accused are Leopoldo Luque (neurosurgeon), Agustina Cosachov (psychiatrist), Ricardo Almirón (nurse), Mariano Perroni (head nurse), Pedro Pablo Di Spagna (clinical doctor), Nancy Edith Forlini (coordinator of Swiss Medical), and Carlos Díaz (psychologist). Gisela Dahiana Madrid, the implicated nurse, will face a jury trial at a later stage.

Diego Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, in his home in San Andrés de Tigre due to a respiratory and cardiac arrest secondary to acute pulmonary edema. The investigation claims that the accused medical professionals did not provide adequate care, which may have contributed to his death.

The Prosecutor's Office alleges that the medical team in charge of the former footballer acted with negligence and neglect, leaving him in a state of medical abandonment. The trial is expected to last several months and include the testimony of numerous witnesses and experts in various hearings. The process can be followed live through the official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Province of Buenos Aires.
